Haley Fohr (b. Dec 161988) is a vocalist, composer and singer-songwriter based in Chicago, Illinois. Her musical endeavors focus around our human condition, and her 10-year career as Circuit des Yeux has grown into one of America’s most successful efforts to connect the personal to the universal. She is most distinctly identified by her 4-octave voice and unique style of 12-string guitar. Her mysterious “Jackie Lynn” project landed her on the cover of Wire Magazine in August of 2016. Her recent works include an Original Soundtrack for Charles Bryant’s silent film Salomé (1923), commissioned by Opera North, and a critically acclaimed 2017 album Reaching For Indigo, released on Drag City Records.
Haitian singer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Beaubrun—son of Theodore “Lòlò” and Mimerose “Manzè” Beaubrun of the Grammy-nominated Haitian band Boukman Eksperyans—does it again with a sensational and thought provoking album, Ayibobo.
Yadda Yadda is the solo project of composer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist, Ayanna Woods. She earned her BA in music composition from Yale University. Her pieces have been performed by the Wet Ink Ensemble, members of Fifth House Ensemble, the Chicago Children’s Choir, and others. Ayanna is a ravenous collaborator across genres. Her work as a writer, producer, and arranger can be found in film scores for Manual Cinema, Revive LLC, and the viral web series Brown Girls, as well as in Jamila Woods’ release, Heavn.
BLUME Haiti works with Haitian and international partners to develop leadership skills, awaken individual potential, and create opportunities for civic collaboration and economic development through the shared pursuit of musical excellence.
Ecole de Musique Dessaix Baptiste is the school we are raising funds for at this event. The Dessaix-Baptiste Music School offers one of the few places in the country where students from all social classes and economic backgrounds can meet as equals. In Haiti’s very stratified society, this is of invaluable worth. After twenty years of existence, the school currently has 1160 students enrolled in a diverse group of classes, lessons and ensembles. From beginning solfege for the newest students to 3 bands, 3 orchestras, 2 jazz bands; lessons on all instruments; and theory and conducting classes as there are teachers available, there is a great deal of activity. Proceeds from this event will potentially fund their guitar program for the next 12 months and provide essential support for their upcoming summer music camps.
