1833 Presents: Tunde Olaniran

Tunde Olaniran is one of the most beloved fixtures of the Detroit music scene, as well as a driving force within the growing artistic community in Flint, MI (where he currently resides.) On the heels of his debut album (Transgressor), Olaniran embarked on his first U.S. national tour in support of noise pop darlings Sleigh Bells. He was named NPR’s Top Artist to Watch at SXSW and performed to a homecoming audience of 5000+ at MoPop Festival in Detroit. After collaborating with fellow Michigan artists Flint Eastwood (“Push”) and Mona Haydar (“Hijabi” &Dog”), Tunde also made his first European appearances in London, Derby (Y Not Festival) and France (Festival Les Escales.) His previous recordings have led to plenty of praise from outlets such as The New York Times, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, Noisey, Afropunk and countless others while his penchant for channeling his energies into additional projects as an author, choreographer, video director and community organizer has made Olaniran’s voice one that can’t help but be heard.

RV Mendoza is a queer Filipinx disco pop songwriter and performer that engages conversations on sexuality, gender, and diasporic experiences.

Born in the Philippines, RV is based in Detroit, Michigan, where, as an active member of LGBTQ+ spaces, he organizes events and performances. He has performed on stages across the world, including Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, Paris, Manila, New York City, Lyon, and Quebec City.

Since being heard on MTV’s hit show Teen Wolf” in 2013 with Flint Eastwood, the demand for RV’s songwriting led to the release of his first album, Uhaw Island,” in March 2018. In May 2018, he finished a three-month tour in Manila, Philippines, as an Artist in Residency with Pineapple Lab, an arts and performance hub.

RV’s catchy personality has been featured in Buzzfeed, TEAM Magazine and Scout among others.
