$1 Beer Night:
hemlock, free range, living thing

Hemlock is the “phone-fi” bedroom folk project of swamp-raised musician Carolina Chauffe and various collaborators, currently based in Chicago, IL. Often bare-boned and bittersweet, this is means-to-an-end modern-day folk art for the eager-hearted. A practice of gratitude to the here and now, swaying with rich sun-glinted harmonies and tender finger-picking. A delicate and captivating sonic collage of memories. An experiment of honest vulnerability, with open arms. Their recent release, ‘talk soon’, is an interstate saga guided along by voicemails and spanning cross-country moves, reimagined relationships, and an ever-evolving idea of home. Pull up a chair and stay a while.
Formed from a recording project, Free Range is the band of singer songwriter Sofia Jensen and drummer/producer Jack Henry. Free Range aims to make songs that are both poignantly honest and optimistic, musically sitting in the space between folk and indie genres. Their debut record is set to release later this year.
Living Thing is the solo project of Chicago-based songwriter Danielle Strautmanis. Her debut EP “Everything Is Green” is an introspective and uplifting piece that carried her through her darkest days. It is an exploration of self-care through the elements of nature, vivid imagery and soulful melodies. Danielle encourages all listeners to utilize powerful optimism as a guide through life‘s turbulence.
