Really at it, I mean the deep down core, Spread Joy is a swirling mass but sped up real fast and kind of frantic. We’re talking no-wave, yeah add post-punk, sprinkle in hardcore, also sure, a dash of sleazy funk to get the groove gotten. Formed late 2019, the group spent some state-mandated solitude time crafting their debut album to throw into the void. Instead of endless nothing, though, it received some high praise from punks around the world. Which is pretty neat, I mean a fuzzy feeling kind of thing.
Vocalist Briana loves those female-fronted post-punk bands like Y Pants, Suburban Lawns and Kleenex—between you and me it’s pretty obvious. Equally obvious is guitarist Raidy’s penchant for pink-flag-era Wire, drummer Tyler’s disco bop-ability and bassist Nick’s knack for getting people really hyped about his lines. “Whoever plays bass on this can absolutely get it” has been uttered in various forms since Spread Joy’s April s/t release. Spread Joy is really at it, I mean something.
The Lipschitz is a music partnership featuring Rachael Boswell and Daniel Lynch – manifesting itself off of the coast of Savannah, GA and now based in Chicago, IL. Their sound is often described as a mix of art-rock, garage punk, and post punk.
