Chicago 3-piece daarling released their debut album The Deep Within late last year. The band, made up of Andrew Bess (guitar), Rob Kristan (drums), and Erin Lyle (vocals, bass), creates an interesting blend of alt-rock and shoegaze that sometimes dips into atmospheric grunge. Blending intricate guitar textures with Lyle’s voice delicately hanging above the instrumentation, the band’s dynamic bursts of energy and thoughtful lyrics invite listeners to look with them into the deep within.

Chicago-based synthpop project Madame Reaper is based on the fictional backstory of a murderous strip club owner—a narrative that speaks to the project’s absurdity, camp, and social considerations. The group’s debut album, Madame Reaper’s Gentlemen’s Club, received praise from Sound Opinion’s Jim DeRogatis and Chicago mainstay Car Con Carne. Their most recent single, “Alright Tonight (This),” takes the group’s sound in a new direction, following the synth-drenched footsteps of ’80s idols like Prince and the B-52s.

ANFANG is a Chicago-based Rock 3-Piece. Loud. Fast. Intricate. Intimate. Their riffs will melt your face off, but you’ll be too busy dancing to notice. ANFANG just released their single Retinal Dystrophy in February, and Reverser 4/28.
Chicago indie-rock band Midamerican Elevator lifts vocal harmonies over guitars traveling between sparkly counterpoint and regenerative drive. They released their latest project, an EP titled TELL IT TO ME NOW!, in January.
